Gratitude is…

Daily writing prompt
How do you express your gratitude?

Saying “Thank You” is a good place to start…being fair, honest, and loyal to someone who has been that to you is the next step. This morning, I heard a lot of people bashing President who is certainly trying very hard to fix the problems caused by the legacy of former President Trump…the man he beat fair and square for the office.

My initial thought was, “Oh, ye of little of faith.” I come from people who were slaves, sharecroppers, and very poor…and, here we are free, property and business owners, and not so poor. I come from a gender who could not vote, where a married woman could not own property, control her wages, or enter into contracts without their husband’s permission…not to mention having no control of their own bodies sexually. And, here we are today.

Thank God, presidents don’t do this by themselves…they have an administration and Biden is a wise old man when it comes to selecting these key folks and he listens to them. For me there is no other choice…only one candidate has been fair, honest and loyal to all of us. I believe the American adage is, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going. It’s time for Americans to do just that. Keeping it simple…a con man, liar, sexual abuser, and insurrectionist cannot be President of the United States again.

So, let’s talk about the debated between the former President and President Biden:

Yes, the cat is out of the bag…our President is elderly!

And yet, as always, in last night’s debate President Biden was out there fighting for us, our country, our democracy. I expected to see senior moments from both candidates…cold medicine or not. The moments were different…but both had their moments.

It wasn’t pretty, but our President successfully reminded us of a few realities:

The importance of NATO and Article 5…the principle that binds its members together, committing them to protect each other. We are not alone in this world…we have thirty-two allied countries ready and willing to fight with us and they do not include Russia, China, or North Korea.

He warned us Social Security, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act are on the ballot…look at the Republican platform, or better yet, read their lips.

Democrats and Republicans put forth the strongest immigration legislation in years and how Trump thwarted its passage solely for political reasons…and how he had to sign an Executive Order rather than the lasting legislation by Congress that he was seeking to deal with immigration.

Although not as forcefully as some think he should have (although I’m sure it was unintentional, his raspiness made me listen a little closer), he reminded us of where we were when he took office and how badly Trump managed the pandemic and how that flagrant mishandling contributed to current inflation. He also dealt with how the former President dealt or rather didn’t deal with climate change, and his tax cuts for the wealthy.

President Biden also reminded us of Trump’s handiwork leading up to and on January 6th, the deadly consequences, his support of January 6th criminals, where he was for hours on that day, and who was President that day. He also reminded us his opponent is a convicted felon, and there are more trials in the wings depending upon what the Supreme Court decides.

Our President reminded us, women’s rights, voting rights, childcare, etc., etc., etc. are on the ballot.

And of course, he reminded us of the many things the administration has done to ease the pain of inflation, such as, job creation, lowering unemployment, higher wages, fighting for women’s rights, boosting small business ownership, fixing our infrastructure, lowering prescription drug prices, developing policies to help the middle-class,

From former President Trump’s podium…mostly a barrage of lies, even claiming credit for the achievements of President Biden and former President Obama. The post-debate fact-checking makes that clear:  CNN Fact Checking; USA Today Fact-Checking; Washington Post Fact-Checking; and New York Times Fact-Checking

Yep, today it seems we have the same choice we had yesterday…I’m sticking with the old guy who won in the last election.
