President Biden: Profile In Courage

I don’t care how old he is, and I don’t care that he stumbles every once in a while. One thing I know for sure is President Biden is no coward. Yesterday, the President of the United States went into a country at war during a very volatile time. He went there to show support to an ally and to do something. He went to save lives…American lives, Israeli lives, and Palestine lives.

He could have picked up the phone. He could have proposed meeting on safer ground. He could have said I have more pressing issues in America. He could have said I’m too old for these circumstances. He didn’t. He did what I would want my President to do if lives were on the line and he could truly make a difference.

President Biden risked his life yesterday to try to bring a measure of understanding and peace to people who needed it. All around him there were loud voices spreading messages of mistrust,  vengeance, division, and hatred. That did not sway President Biden from his mission.

We know this act of terrorism by Hamas and their supporters cannot go unanswered. We know there will be more death and destruction in Israel, Gaza and beyond. We know there is a possibility no hostages will survive. We understand that at the end of the day, Egypt may not follow through on their commitment, or Israel may forge ahead with an unbridled vengeance. We even know that some of the news we receive will be inaccurate…some full of purposeful lies. We know our enemies will try to use this tragedy for all its worth.

The truth is none of us knows where all of this is going, but we will always know what President Biden tried to do yesterday and the courage he showed us.
