I have been trying to attend more local government meetings and occasionally I move out of my comfort zone and actually address the council. The last time I had the opportunity to do so, one of the council members went on a rant about how the Council cannot be influenced by a couple of complaints. I thought it was disrespectful and wrong to suggest these members should not take into consideration the feedback from their constituents. The item was tabled, and I am sure it was not only because of the input from the two people who spoke. I’m sure these council members had been speaking to others in the community, getting calls, and emails. And, of course, they received input from the citizens who spoke at the meeting. So, once again I am going to step out of my comfort zone say how much I appreciate the council members who understand the importance of listening to their constituents.
