We have watched President Biden being accused of losing an election to the former President for his entire presidency. We have watched Trump hold rally after rally to deny the election was fair. The former President and his allies have disparaged Biden in the media at his every turn. In 2021, Trump even went as far as to create Truth Social, his own social media platform to attack Biden, Biden’s policies, Biden’s staff, our government, our justice department, and our allies.
At this point, there is no need for us to dwell on January 6th and the former President’s role in the events that took place at the Capitol that day. Although he is fighting tooth and nail to not have his day in court as many of his followers have already done, it looks as if it will happen, and a jury will decide whether or not he is guilty.
The same is the case with the interference in the Georgia elections process…after many efforts to delay, that too looks as it will be decided in court by a jury.
We watched the videos of the classified documents removed from the White House as Trump departed office.…and we have heard him attest that it was his right to do so. It looks as if that too will be decided in the courts.
But all of these judicial cases are just food for thought until all that is worked out. In the meantime, we find we are proceeding toward the primaries with Trump as the leading GOP candidate…and, with most of his opposition pledging to pardon him if he is convicted of crimes. If he wins, the question of his ability to pardon himself is still on the table.
But let’s put Trump’s judicial plight to the side…just roll a couple of things around in your head.
Just chew on these tidbits for a couple of minutes…or maybe even longer. For the sake of argument, I want us all to think about what happens if Trump wins. He’s already explained his intent to deal with his perceived enemies like the Grim Reaper on steroids.
A more intriguing scenario is if Trump manages to lose the election and a Republican or Democrat wins…and they pardon him. What would Trump do if he walks free? Can you pardon a person and attach a gag order? Who thinks Trump would go quietly into the night? Would he be more kind to the winner if he or she is a Republican? Do you think he would treat a Pence, DeSantis, Haley, Ramaswamy, Scott, Asa, or Christie any better than he has treated President Biden? Or do we just start over again with the harassment, the cinema, a replay of what we have been watching for almost three years? It’s a question.
I personally think we’re damned if Trump wins, and damned if he doesn’t. What do you think?
