Making Lemonade:  Madison Keys and Tiger Woods

Madison Keys, 28, has been in the tennis game for quite some time but has never won a Grand slam. She is #17 in the world and for the most part is very low key…never wins the big one and rarely makes semi-final.  Last night she faced Aryna Sabalenka and was on the cusp of winning more than once but didn’t pull it out. It was one of the best matches of the tournament.

But don’t cry a river for Madison.  Madison Keys didn’t make it to the finals, but she had her hot fiancé on the sidelines coaching her to the brink of winning the semi-finals.  Although she didn’t quite pull off a win last night, Keys has earned $16,523,940 in career prize money.  In total, she also has a net worth of $8 million.  And, although she lost in the semi-finals, she’ll take home $775,000.   In addition to her tennis earnings, Madison is no different from other athletes when it comes to endorsements.

The Master’s Golf Tournament is never the same when Tiger isn’t there…he wasn’t there for quite a bit of it the 2023 tournament.  The last time we saw Tiger he was in obvious excruciating pain and eventually had to withdraw from the tournament.      .

But don’t cry a river for Tiger either…it seems he and Rory McIlroy are closing the deal for the highly anticipated TGL Golf League, coming in January 2024.  In a groundbreaking move, Woods, in partnership with fellow golf sensation Rory McIlroy, has paved the way for the highly anticipated TGL Golf League, set to launch in January 2024.  I’m not going to even pretend I understand any of this, or for that matter the game of golf, but I do understand it seems the TGL was initially conceived as a response to the highly controversial and ill-conceived LIV Golf Series.  This tech-driven concept with franchise ownership opportunities has taken hold in the golf community to the tune of billions of dollars.

And to boot, Steve Cohen’s decision to acquire the fourth team in the TGL series has sent shockwaves through the sport. Cohen’s newly acquired team, based in New York, will join franchises in Los Angeles, Boston, and Atlanta.

Politics seeps in every single part of our lives…from the gains women have made in sports to the Saudi driven LIV golf situation.  But at the end of the day, there are so many moments where Americans just make it work.  It is often in the midst of the world of sports that we see the resilience of the American spirit…and our willingness to just do what we do best.  And even when we are not at our best, we can still be seen pushing through to make…lemonade.

And then, there are the Tommy Tuberville’s…this is a political blog.
