Prosecution or Persecution: How Could They Do This to Poor Former President Trump?

Donald J. Trump served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021.  Remember his boast, ““I am going to be the greatest jobs president that God ever created.”  Trump took over the reins from President Obama who served two terms in office.  Trump saw 100 months of continuous U.S. monthly job gains end in February 2019 as the economy slowed.

This ended a record eight years and four months of monthly job gains — dating back to October 2010.  Although some sources reflect this downturn was due to the pandemic, it actually ended February 2019… roughly a year before the pandemic.  The U.S. lost 50,000 jobs in February 2019. The U.S. would go on to add 2 million jobs in 2019, the lowest annual growth since 2010.  And then, the coronavirus hit and in two months, March and April 2020, the U.S. economy lost a staggering 22.4 million jobs.

Although many of the jobs would return before he left office, Trump ended his presidency becoming the first president in modern times to experience a net loss of jobs over his time in office, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As a candidate and president, Trump promised the nation’s economy would grow on an annual basis by 4% to 6%. But it never topped 3%.  The inflation-adjusted gross domestic product went up in Trump’s first two years, peaking at an estimated 2.9% in 2018 — the highest since 2005. The economy grew only 2.3% in 2019 and the bottom fell out in 2020.

Although President Trump delivered record-breaking tax cuts to the middle-class and wealthy Americans, many of these gains were lost with the mismanagement of COVID.  It would later be determined Trump might have prevented some of the damage of COVID, if he had alerted the country of his earlier knowledge regarding the danger rather downplaying.  More than a million Americans have died from COVID.

We could beat this horse to death by looking at the alienation of our allies, the poverty rate, the GDP, nepotism, Supreme Court, immigration, the wall, homelessness, etc.

No President has no wins, and no President has no failures.  Some do better than others, some do worse.  Trump was just a President, not a God and not a king.

What happened on January 6th was wrong.  What happened with the Georgia election was wrong.  What happened with Mara Lago with unsecure records classified documents and obstruction was wrong.  What happened in New York was wrong.  Continuing to sabotage President Biden’s presidency with a kangaroo government while continuously harassing him throughout his entire presidency is wrong…no other President has had to put up with this.  And, if he doesn’t win, the next President—Democrat or Republican—shouldn’t have to deal with it either.

All of the alleged crimes deal with the former President attempting to take or taking something that belonged to another entity through unlawful means.  l will leave it to the courts to decide whether or not Trump is guilty of crimes, but I don’t need a court to tell me this behavior is wrong…awfully wrong. And if convicted, I know Trump should not go unpunished. And if found not guilty, I know this is not a person who should be President…but, I also know in my democracy I have one vote. I accept that.
